Ringkasan Cerita THE PURGE (2013) :

Ketika Amerika sedang dilanda oleh kejahatan dan penjara menjadi penuh dan sesak, maka pemerintah telah menyetujui periode tahunan selama 12 jam di mana segala aktivitas yang berhubungan dengan kriminal-termasuk pembunuhan-menjadi legal. Polisi tidak bisa lagi dihubungi. Sedangkan rumah Sakit tidak bisa memberikan pertolongan lagi. Pada salah satu malam, warga bebas mengatur dirinya sendiri tanpa harus takut dengan hukuman.

Pada malam ini dimana kekerasan dan kejahatan menjadi epidemi, ada satu keluarga yang bingung dengan keputusan yang akan mereka ambil ketika ada orang asing yang datang mengetuk pintu rumah mereka. Ketika seorang penyusup berhasil menerobos masuk ke dalam rumah  James Sandin (Ethan Hawke) yang keamanannya terjaga dengan baik selama bertahun tahun, mulai mengancam dan menggertaknya.

Sekarang, semua terserah kepada James, istrinya, Mary (Lena Headey), dan anak-anak mereka untuk bisa melewati malam tanpa harus berubah menjadi monster seperti yang mereka sembunyikan selama ini.
